An assortment of daybooks, ledgers, journals, and inventories kept by twenty-one different merchants in Rockbridge County, Virginia, most of them relating to the operation of general merchandise stores at Lexington, showing prices of commodities and purchases by county residents. Chief among the merchants and firms represented are John F. Caruthers, Caruthers and Patton, Caruthers and Shields, James Compton, H. M. Estill, William Finley, William McDaniel, Jr., John Patton, Willson and Patton, James R. Willson, Samuel Willson, and William Willson.
